December 5. Day 339. Parting in such sweet sorrow

It is possible my son Oliver remembers a time when Fame wasn't part of his life - but I doubt it. He had just turned five when he walked through the doors of the theatre at its old home at Bowen Hills. From day one, he loved it and I don't think it surprised anyone that while other students have fallen by the wayside, Oliver has been a stayer. In fact, he is the longest serving student in the company right now. Today many of those who have become friends and colleagues, performed alongside him for the last time. Under Fame rules, students can stay for one year after they have finished high school. That means three of the tight knit senior performance crew had to hang up their dance shoes. All but three of the remainder have decided that it makes sense to close the Fame chapter of their lives at the same time as they finish school. As a result there were tears - tears from those who are leaving and as many tears (perhaps more) from those like Oliver who are staying. There was a party at our place after the final curtain closed and while the gang may never be on stage together again it is unlikely this is likely to be the end. Even so, parting is such sweet sorrow.
